Full Time Wastewater Operator/Technician Position

The Basalt Sanitation District is hiring a Wastewater Operator/Technician. The Wastewater
Operator/Technician performs semi-skilled and skilled work related to the maintenance of the District's wastewater treatment plant and collection system, assist in monitoring and maintaining the treatment process, sampling and laboratory testing and daily record keeping. This is a full-time, year-round position with benefits.

• Experienced Operators starting wages: $23.50 to $28.85 per hour, DOE
Entry Level starting wages: $18.50 to $23.50 per hour, DOE

• High school diploma or equivalent (GED) required. Valid Colorado Driver's License required.

• Ability to obtain Wastewater License, CDL License and GIS experience.

• Operates, regulates, and maintains wastewater plant facility and collection system, including supply, storage, treatment, metering, monitoring laboratory work, equipment operation, equipment
maintenance, system maintenance and repair as applicable.

• Collects samples from various points in the system; performs laboratory tests; inspects and maintains equipment; lubricates operating equipment and makes necessary adjustments.

• Reads and records gauge and flow meter charts.

• Performs back washing of filters as necessary; prepares sludge beds; draws sludge, cleans
clarifier weirs and troughs.

• Interpret water quality/quantity data and make appropriate adjustments.

• May perform pipefitting such as threading, flanged, and mechanical connecting.

• Operates a variety of equipment including SCADA computer system, computers, analyzers, laboratory instruments, line video camera and sewer jetter.

• Performs inspections of various elements of system as required.

• Maintains plant maintenance and operating records and may assist in compiling reports to regulatory agencies, as necessary.

• Assist in the performance of custodial and grounds maintenance duties.

• Assists with plant tours for visitors.

• Other duties as assigned.

• This job is very physical requiring performing work in all kinds of weather, a frequent need to stand, stoop, walk, sit, climb in high areas, lift heavy objects (up to 50 pounds), and perform similar actions during the course of the workday. Work also involves exposure to loud noises, chemicals, toxic fumes, air and waterborne pathogens, and mechanical equipment.

• Ability to stand, walk, stoop/bend, lift, and/or move items weighing up to 50 pounds and make repetitive motions.

• Ability to work outside, year-round for 4 – 8 hour periods.

• Manual dexterity sufficient to operate tools, vehicles, and equipment.

• Ability to stand, walk, and stoop with flexibility enough to bend, twist, and safely reach at all body levels, including overhead to complete necessary work.

• Communication skills sufficient to convey information to supervisor, the public, or other employees.
• Communicate face to face and by telephone or video-conference.
• Follow written and/or verbal instructions.
• Ability to work alone and/or in groups.
• Establish and maintain effective working relationship with supervisors, co-workers, and gen

• Attend safety sessions and keep informed about safety and emergency procedures.
